2009 F150
My truck has died and I am in search of a new used truck. I've found some good pricing on 2008 / 2009 Ford F150's. However, the customer complaints on these are either that the spark plugs break or that the engine needs to be replaced.
I can swallow the few hundred for the spark plugs or get it taken off the purchase price (maybe). But replacing an engine?
Does anyone work at an independent shop or a dealership that can give us a good idea of how often these problems occur? The trucks I'm looking at have ~100k miles.
Edit: The specific one I am looking at is 2008 F150 XLT 5.4L 4 wheel drive
Edit 2: Also looking at 2009 F150 XLT 4.6L 4 Wheel drive
Edit 3: If I do have to replace the engine on a 2008 or 2009 Ford, will the problem be solved? Will the new engine have the same problem?
Thanks and cheers,
He did say there was a new PN for cam phasers, but 'he didn't know what changed'. Like they can't look at them themselves? Sigh. Anyway, the youtube video I saw showed roll pins that loosened over time, but the new PN seems to have solid pins. So maybe the problem is fixed?
Do you replace the cam phasers once and then you're done (after the new PN)?
Cheers,
