I did NOT have mine done at the dealer. However I would find a BBB and AAA accredited shop in your area and have them replace the cam phasers and VCt's. I did not pay anything, the dealer I bought my truck from (Northwest motor sport in Puyallup Washington) paid for it. It cost them $1,400 to have it done at a very reputable shop. It took the diesel noise away and it runs pretty damn good! Plugs and VCT's are on my preventive to do list in the next 10k. My personal suggestion is to do plugs, vct's and cam phasers at the same time. It will be a kick in the ***** but it will be worth it if you intend on keeping the truck.
Instead of phaser replacement has anyone tried the livernois limiters? Can purchase a set for about 130 probably less if you have a friend at the parts store. I am not sure what i think about them. I called and the sales rep said he had sold several sets to 5.4 owners that used them to stop the ticking. They are actually made for a 4.6 mustang with a performance cam. Any opinions?
