Hi Ford folks, just took delivery of a 1976 f 250 custom with the 360 fe engine. Bought it from California, now it's in the UK.
Can anyone help me with a few issues that I have with the truck. Is there a manual choke conversion for this truck, and can I take the air circulation system of as we don't have such strict emission laws here in the UK. I was told that the truck is fully stock no mods. If no manual choke conversion, which carb would be a good replacement for it with a manual choke.
Every manual conversion I've ever seen wasn't worth bringing home, it's going to be way easier to make the auto choke work right. I always find a 69 or earlier 2100 that came factory with manual choke, or buy a new Holley 2 bbl with manual choke.
One of the biggest problem with a kit is that you still have high idle steps on the cam. Manual choke carbs have a ramp on the cam. With the auto choke notches and a conversion, pull the choke once without depressing the gas pedal, the idle screw catches a notch on the fast idle cam and the whole janky cable holder slips.
Manual trans...can't think of anything with the choke that the transmission type would affect anyhow.?
I just went to the local big name auto parts store and bought their generic. It was like $15. For the most part most of the manual chokes are generics. It's not a very complicated part or idea so there isn't a ton of money to be made off them.
