There is hysteresis of the viscous fluid in the fan clutch so there always is some rotation. When the fan truly engages you hear a roar due to its engagement. But going down the road with a 1600 engine rpm it’s not unusual to see a few hundred fan rpm. I’m not a person who can talk much about fan engagement as I’ve only had the fan kick in once since 2003.
I had a chance today to replace the fan clutch. While in there I removed the thermostat and tested it. It was fine. However I did replace it, just since I had it apart.
Seems to be ok. EOT came up to 170 and I did hear the fan clutch click. Let it run for a while and it came up to 184 EOT 183 ECT and 184 TFT. 25 IPR 550ish ICP
So I think that is fine.
Now if I can only figure out the stalling issue when cold, haha
