Problem with sync 3 2.3 update
Problem with sync 3 2.3 update
Have a 2016 F150 and replaced the usb module with apple carplay compatible unit. Then updated the 1.0 software via usb and seemed to go ok, but even though it lists the software as 2.3 neither apple carplay or android auto come up as options. I have also lost voice recognition. An error message comes up stating "voice recognition not ready" Has anyone had a similar problem?

If you scroll to the left on the SYNC screen, you`ll se the Android Auto symbol and again, you`ll have to plug your phone into the USB.
Also, you must have the Ford Pass app on your phone to use the SYNC/AppLink apps.
Some times the SYNC system takes awhile for everything to get back to normal so just be patient........your voice recognition will come back soon.
Did you turn your vehicle off after the update?
Another thing that you can do is go into the SYNC screen and do a Master Reset.
Hope this helps so let us know.
Thank you for the reply! I tried a master reset without any luck. When I plug my iPhone in it does recognize the phone, but carplay doesn't open. I also don't have the android autoplay icon in the display.
I did turn off the truck when the update was complete and didn't try starting again for at least an hour. The software info screen does indicate that it's updated to 2.3, but all of the features still look the same as when it was version 1.0.
A couple of other strange things that are happening besides the voice recognition issue. Every so often a message comes up saying that the usb hub is not supported which it did after I initially changed the usb with v1.0 still running. The other issue happens when truck is off and sync powered down and I press the audio volume/power button, sync turns on and a climate screen appears. My old 1.0 version didn't have a climate function. It seems as if sync is stuck updated between the versions 1.0 and 2.3.
I was hoping to avoid having to bring it to the dealer, but I don't seem to be having luck with this.

I would agree that a trip to the dealer might be required but before you go to the dealer, give it a few days to see if it`ll clear up.
I`m not sure if you`ve done this but have you upgraded your iPhone to 11.2.5
If you have then that`s the problem.
Apples latest iOS update has caused SYNC to just go crazy to the point where nothing works.
The BETA iOS 11.3 seems to have fixed all of the problems with SYNC and that`s what people who are using the BETA version are reporting. It suppose to be out in March.
Since your Android Auto is also not showing up on your SYNC screen then i`d say you definitely have other issues because it should show up after the 2.3 update.
My iPhone is updated to 11.2.5. !! Sounds like that might be contributing to the problems, but you’re probably right and there’s more to it than that. I’m going to give it some more time to work itself out, but will most likely have to bring it to the dealer. Thank you again for your help.
Same problem
The day before we left for a week-long journey (Feb 15), my 2016 Ford Edge popped up with a message informing me that it had automatically updated Sync (via wifi). We pretty quickly noticed that we weren't getting voice prompts from the GPS. And when I tried to use voice commands, I got the same error as the OP, saying "voice command not ready". It still says that. Checked "About Sync" and it says SYNC3, Software Version 2.3, build 17109. Automatic Update says it updated on Feb 18, which is not possible, since we were 900 miles from home on that date. It's now Feb 23. How long is it supposed to take before voice commands start working again?
Is there a Ford discussion board monitored by Ford where we could report this problem with the update?

I hope I'm not breaking any rules, but there is a (Ford) Sync forum. Perhaps they have info to solve your problem,
