i have had my truck for two weeks and am having lots of problems with Sync 3. I had Sync 3 in my Expedition (different revision), so it is not like I don’t know how it should work or how to use it. First problem was that it was working erratically, it would freeze, crash and restart and I got a message twice that the GPS was not available, and when this would happen, the unit would become sluggish or non responsive. It then stopped understanding who I wanted to call. I would give the phone command and it would call random people that did not even sound close to the name of whomever I wanted to call. I then tried Apple CarPlay and that worked perfectly. I’m assuming it uses the same mic that Sync does. I then had the forward crash avoidance warning go off, for no reason, and Sync basically stopped working at this same time. I am not sure if these systems somehow are real acted but it just seemed like too much of a coincidence. My dealer suggested I do a master reset and that did immediately clear things up. Now a couple days later and Sync stopped making phone calls if I said in one sentence phone call my wife on cell”. I would have to say “phone” and purse for the prompt and then say “call my wife on cell” for it to work. Now yesterday and getting worse today” I would say “phone” and Sync would respond “changing to Sirius channel whatever”, or it would call a random person. This time however I am not having the GPS issue, or the system slowing down or crashing and not an issue using voice commands with Siri on Apple CarPlay. Who knows what it will be like in a few more days.
There is no loud background noise, heck it even messes up sitting in a parking spot with the engine off. I will even say some other commands like navigation and you never know what sync will do such as changing the radio from Sirius to some AM or FM station to who knows what. I am speaking very clearly and it does this for other people as well. Is anyone else having really strange things like this happening with Sync 3? Maybe I have a ghost lol.
With the holidays, I cannot get into the dealer until the end of next week at the earliest. To add insult to injury, today one of the rear parking sensors appears to be bad, as it faulted 3 times with “Rear Parking Assist Is Unavailable” and sent me a message to FordPass.
Other than this this wee problem, this truck is AWESOMELY AWESOME!!!
Join the club. Common problem. Several threads on it. To do a hard reboot disconnect both battery cables for 15 minutes. This helped mine for a few days now have to do it every morning with several soft reboots daily while diving by holding the radio power button in and the fast forward button in for 5 seconds or so to reboot. It is a well known Ford defect with the system. Parts "module" is usually on national back order and will take days to weeks to get. My appointment is 28 January to get it looked at because around here the electrical departments at all of the Dealer I called are so backed up due to this and recalls etc.
Is it also safe to assume that the GPS issue not being found is also related? It sure seems to be, as when that would happen, the entire system would become unresponsive.
I am still wondering if my frontal crash warning alert that went off for now reason was related to this as well. Just seems strange that when it did that, the Sync 3 unit decided it was no longer going to cooperate with me.

Take it in to your dealer while it`s acting up and let them check your APIM.
If you do a hard reboot or disconnect your battery, the problems will vanish for awhile but they will come back and the dealer can only check the APIM when the system is acting up.
Thanks for the info!
To me, this seems like a software issue since a restart / reset clears it up temporarily. Something l8e a lot of older Windows computers had a problem with memory leaks that would eventually make the computer unusable and forced you to reboot to fix, only till the next time.I find it odd that with this truck just being built and delivered on the 12th, that it is hardware, given how others have older trucks than mine and had their APIM’s replaced to fix this. At least that is how I read it. But who knows, stranger things have happened. ;-)

The APIM in your truck is no different than the APIM in a 2016 F150. Since these problems are not affecting all owners and others have had their APIM replaced, I think it`s a problem on how specific lots of these APIM`s are manufactured or it`s just a bad one out of every 50-100 or so.
The APIM for my 2016 F150 has been on order since early October.
