When I was a kid, Dash Compasses were common. I was poking around on Ebay one day and came across a '50s Compass with a Ford script. I really wanted it and watched the bidding ready to pounce at the last moment. Until..... the bidding skyrocketed into the hundreds... Turns out like many vintage items, there are passionate Collectors.
I got hooked though and decided to find a less expensive Compass that would suit the vibe of my Truck and of course, work properly. I eventually found this "Airguide Marine Model 74" unit. This one had been installed in a Trailer. They are fairly common, but I couldn't find anything to date it. I found a 1957 Ad for a Model 88.
Perhaps there are some folks here that are Vintage Auto Compass Experts?
Just two 10-32 screws into 1/8" strap I tapped on the backside.
I remember a compass, like that, in every vehicle my Dad owned!
Oh and a CB radio that was "hopped up"
Not insinuating that you might be as old as my Dad, but...
The 1974 24’ SeaRay that my family had in the 80’s had one just like that. I spent many hours behind that compass trolling for salmon before and after school.
