I have owned my S&W SD9 VE since Nov 2013 and have yet to fire a single bullet from it. When I purchased it, the gun shop was out of gun cleaning kits in 9mm, so I bought one of those gun snake things, and some cleaning solution. I did not want to fire it back then until I got a gun cleaning kit, and now, I am too far away from the range, and don't have transportation except the city bus which prohibits weapons on board. So, I don't know when I will be able to fire it. I should buy some WD 40 to keep it well oiled incase I need it for home defense, or maybe Ill look for the cleaning solution (it is in a spray can,) and use that. Don't want the thing blowing up in my face if I need it to stop an intruder...

Good idea on the WD40 Jim. Our cleaning kit includes some preservative oil, and I run a cotton cleaning swab (with a little of that oil on it) up & down the barrel when I put my rifle away.

BTW - What all dat white stuff on the ground this morning?

Nooooo , don’t use WD40 , it attracts dust , go to Walmart and get a small spray can called brake free, its a really great product and you can use it around the house too, I clean my guns , shower door rollers , pocket door rollers , locks, anything , I don’t even have Wd in my garage, one little spray goes a long way , my father in law turned me on to this 6 years ago and I have loved it.

Brake free eh? Good to know. I don't know if the local Walmart Neighborhood market will have it, but I can order it online and have it sent there for pickup if they don't. Thanks for the tip.

I wouldn't use WD-40 on a gun unless it was the only thing I had.
Remington gun oil... doesn't take much.
Tri-Flow for locks. It evaporates, but leaves teflon lubrication behind.

I don't have any WD-40 at the moment, but I do have that can of spray that came with the gun snake. I guess I could use that if I can find it. maybe I'll look for the Tri Flow stuff too.

Tri-flow is really pretty good stuff. I use it on many things, but never thought about using it on a gun barrel. All I've ever used on a rifle is the standard gun oil.

BTW - Been blowing and raining almost all night. This March thing looks like a lion (so far).
