Key Not Working

99F150 5.4 4x4. I could not find my main key and used my spare which when programmed did not work at the time. I used it thinking now that my truck was working it would work. I tried starting it and it crank over 3 times with no start. Fourth time nothing. It would of been wise to wait. I did find my main key and tried it and got nothing. I had it jumped thinking it could be the battery. Nothing. I must of messed it up using that other key. I even unhooked the battery thinking that would work. I used my main key and turned it on and off three times. Need help assessing this. Long 1hr walk to work. Any thoughts would be appreciated. My locksmith lives in the Twin Cities and I have moved 90 minutes away in the country. Thanks

turn the radio off... turn the key to the ON position, but not START.... you will see the THEFT light on the dash light up and then after 3 seconds go OFF.. That means the computer has recognized the key.. If the light does not go OFF, then the key will not start the truck.

At the same time the THEFT light is on for 3 seconds, you will hear the fuel pump in the gas tank run and prime the fuel system. It will run for 2-3 seconds, then go off. You will have fuel pressure in the fuel rail after that... If you don't hear the pump, then you might have a bad fuel pump or no power to the pump.... If you do hear the pump and want to check to see that there IS fuel in the rail, look on top of the motor at the fuel line running above the injectors... there is a shrader valve on that line ( looks line an air valve on a tire rim).... if you take a small Phillips screw driver and push the center pin in just a bit, you should get a SHOT of fuel out to prove it has 40 psi ( roughly)...... don't stick you face in front of the valve.

disconnecting the battery and waiting a few minutes, then reinstall, should reset the computer to a STANDARD configuration.. Any error codes will be gone, any remembered fuel / temp settings will be gone.... so after the truck does startup , it might take a few minutes to relearn the operation.
