I ordered the kit that has 2 60" led strips and switch. I too am trying to figure out n easy place to get hot......tail light?, hot wire on the small trailer harness? Other?
On my RIP 2012 F-150, I had 4, LED license plate lights mounted to the bottom on my fiberglass tonneau cover. Had a rocker switch and a Lithium 9V battery in a battery clip, tucked up under the bed rail. In 5 years, I changed that battery twice.
Why not install something like this? 12V LED strip lights, from amazon you can get them as cheap as $8 or nicer waterproof for $20. Tying them into the bed lights might be a challenge, but running them under the bed rails seems like a great idea.
The factory bed lights are only 5v and would not run extra lights. Mine had a plug on the frame a lot of guys were adding lights for running boards, I used that plug and ran the wires up and into the bed. The beat part is they come on with the factory bed light switch and cargo switch in the cab. Also when you unlock the truck with the fob it lights up the bed for a short period

You have a pic of that plug? I think I saw it on the frame and wondered if it was for the factory steps.

I don't but this thread has all the info. There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason as to which trucks have that plug from the factory. https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1508457-running-board-lights.html
I also have the swingcases and put some led lights under the rails. I ran a cord along the frame rail and went to the upfitters. I used this cord from Menards - Cerrowire® 25' SOOW Portable Power Cable 10/3

I finished adding some light strips today. Purchased two 39 in long strips from Superbrightleds.com. Tapped into the box LED light switch so I can turn it on/off from the stock switch. Now I can get light at the front of my bed with my tonneau partially closed and if one of the stock lights are blocked.
Totally lost this thread, sorry for the delayed response. I'll get a pic of the installed swing cases tonight. Even though they block the light, they are well worth it.
Tow strap, ratchet straps, jumper cables, cleaning supplies and a small tool kit are in mine. Leaves the under seat storage open for groceries and such so they dont fly around everywhere.
I want to jump off the switch in the bed. Dont mind using strips, they do provide decent light for the $ and I shouldn't draw more power then that circuit can already provide.

Check the voltage on that switch. Someone said it's only 5v, if you plug one of those 12v LED strips into 5v the output is going to be pretty disappointing. A lot of work for some mood lighting lol.
