replacement gas tank

I have a 1989 Ranger with a leaking plastic gas tank, I have tried to seal the leak by adding a plastic weld around the leak, have not been successful after three tries, so decided to replace the tank, can't find a new tank, every site that i look at years stop at 1988, no 89 no 90, can't find a replacement tank no where I look..... what gives , is there not replacement plastic tanks made?.... What gives....any one Help!!!!

Depending on what engine ( 4 or 6 banger) and do you have reg cab or extended makes a difference,,,, not sure on what bed you have,,,but if memory is right it is either a 19 gallon or bigger tank,,,,please give us some more info on bed and engine

He could not find any thing either, he called me back a couple hours later and told me he went tru his whole system and could find nothing....... What gives?????

how about rock auto? they have a decent listing and you dont have to deal with the dopes at the parts store. (just because the parts store said they dont have it doesnt mean they actually dont)

the same with Rock Auto up to 88 then nothing...... this is very frustrating , if nothing else I may have to take a chance on a used one from wrecking yard , cause if i am going to pull it out of the truck to fix it i think i will just replace it with a used one...not what I really wanted to do....but
Thanks for the help everyone

its possible a diffrent year tank will work, my 94 15 gallon tank i swapped out with a 20 gallon tank from a 97. both trucks were the same setup (2wd longbed reg cab) id invest in new straps at least, and a new fuel pump assy is aleways a good idea while youre at this point.

Well, 1988 and back used steel tanks and had a 2 pump system (3 if dual tank) - lift pump in the tank(s) and a high (medium) pressure pump on the frame rail. 1989-92 (Gen 2) trucks (and later) bumped up the FI pressure and used a one high-pressure pump in-tank.

I got a hole some years back in the nylon tank on my 91 (short bed ext cab) and was looking for a replacement (tried patching the old one but couldn't do more than slow 'er to a drip. The local pick-a-part boneyard had a '89 that they let me grab the tank from before they put it out on the yard (yard policy was to hole and drain the tanks before putting them out for picking so this was pretty lucuky for me). Only difference I could see was the 91 had an extension on the front of the tank that ran up under the cab and held maybe a couple gallons more (also made it a real goat to remove with the truck up on jackstands, as it extended over the crossmember!)

You should be OK with any tank from a a similar configuration (cab, bed length) from 89-92, possibly newer. One thing to remember with Hollander based references is they will tell you what is an *EXACT* fit. Small differences that can be worked around may be seen as *DIFFERENT: (no match) by these listings. (and sometimes there is a *REAL* dealbreaker difference - helps if you can get to a pick-a-part with an assortment of vehicles and get a look/measure for yourself or get a thumbs up from someone who has done that swap)

Good Luck!
