Hi there. i have a 1994 F150 short-bed and 2 wheel drive. the filler is behind the rear wheels, as is the tank. The truck has a rusty gas tank and leaks, and so i need to replace it. However, when i go to the pump, it only fills up to 13.5 gallons no matter how i do it.
I feel stupid for asking this, (as ive had 5 other fords and worked extensively on them) but what would be my stock gas tank size and which tank would be recommended for replacement?
Sounds about right......I had to replace the rear tank on my old '92 F350 long bed/5.8L/4x4. I had never previously used the rear tank because it had a leak. After replacing it I took the truck down to the gas station for a fill-up. 19 gallons later it was full. I drove it ~150 miles and the rear tank read empty. When I filled up again..it took about 14 gallons! The sender was fine, it was just that pessimistic.
I would vote your truck has the same annoying characteristic to me.
stock tank is 19 gallons, but in reality you will only ever put about 15 gallons in it because the gauge will show empty and leave you a 4 gallon "reserve"
as said above, the 38 gallon bronco tank is a popular swap. the only thing is you will not be able to mount the spare tire under the truck anymore.
