I have been giving some love in the form of repairs to my 1992 F250. The fixes are getting smaller and I am stuck with a broken washer pump.
I replaced the pump yesterday and my sprayers where working just fine. Tonight when I took ol rusty out for a drive, the sprayers where not working again with the same symptoms. I can hear the relays click, but no pump when I hit the switch (at least no sprayers).
Sitting and thinking more about it, I had these thoughts. Fluid was brown, I mixed two different fluids, and that is the issue. It is cold here in MN, maybe the pump doesn’t like that (the fluid I added is the correct temp range). Wiring is bonky and the replacement pump worked for a bit and then something happened.
I will dig the old pump out of the trash and see if it works with 12v input. Maybe it was fine. That might help narrow things down.
Is there power at the pump? The new pump might be bad. New parts don’t always mean they are good. If the pump is working disconnect the hose at the sprayer to see if maybe the nozzle is clogged.
Not sure if this will help you or not, but when I replaced my wash pump I had a similar issue. In my case. The female plug was corroded badly, so I carefully scraped clean with a tiny pick and put a dab of dielectric grease in each, and that did the trick.
Thanks for the advice. I got the squirter working after checking the old pump. It worked just fine off of 12V. I cleaned up the connection and now everything is working again.
Now time to look into the ABS light that came on...
