Question fuel line filter

I want to put a filter in the fuel line ahead of the sediment bowl on the fuel pump 239 flat head.any one kind should I look for.and do I have to worry about line pressure.fuel pressure ,anything of that nature.thinking of a clear filter as I am still getting a lot of
gunk from the tank.
thanks Ron.

My Parts engine had a plastic filter between the pump and carb. I don't think you would have to worry about fuel pressure. If a Twin Cylinder Briggs and Straton can handle one and those engines are mainly gravity fed.

Ron

Just a word of caution. A guy who helps me on my 51 was a NSRA safety inspector for 20 years said the glass ones like I had have been known to break and burn the truck to the ground. He said you can't get the safety sticker from the NSRA inspection if you have a in line filter like mine.

My truck's ('49 F1 w/flathead 6) previous owner installed a clear plastic filter between the pump and carb. I replaced it with a similar metal in-line filter (NAPA) in the fuel line as it crosses in front of the radiator before it curves back toward the pump. My logic was that here it was not normally under pressure and is better protected. Thoughts on this location?

I've been running a clear plastic filter on my flatty V8. It is on the firewall just before the fuel pump. 2+ years and about 35K miles with multiple filters and not a problem.

I watch it closely and like being able to see the condition of the filter and replace it when it looks like it needs it. Sure beats trying to troubleshoot engine 'stumbling' problems blind.

i have a cheapo (less than 4-5 $$) clear plastic filter just before the fuel pump on my 50 f1 with a flathead 8. you can find them at any parts store. i think mine was on a display next to the register. It works great when the truck runs.
