Hi all, I only got my cell today (No laptop) so it's hard to search. Can someone show how to pull the harmonic balancer off? Or forward a link? Do I need a pulley puller or similar?
also is my balancer supposed to look so deteriorated on the inside?
Also note that balancer is no good, the rubber is cracked and broken down. The outside ring can slip and give incorrect timing readings and depending on where the imbalance is it can put the engine out of balance and result in vibration, or lead to crank failure (more in the case of high RPM engines).
Rubber can be replaced to restore a balancer, there are several companies that do this and I think there may be kits to DIY. Maintaining correct orientation of the inner and outer parts is critical though.
That puller kit is also like $15-20 at harbor freight, which is what i used to remove mine. My balancer showed some weathering as well, but not as significant as yours.
