Reverse

I started backing up and my reverse gear seemed to lock up. All forward gears work. The gear shifter appears to move through the gears without issue. When I shift into reverse the truck feels as though it is locked up. Got no idea what is wrong. The four wheel drive has been inoperable for a year or so but I don't know if that matters for this problem.

Is it manual transmission? Did you recently have work done?

It could be a reverse gear failure, or if anyone was trying to check your manual transmission fluid, and took out the wrong bolt, the gear may have fallen off the shaft.

Sorry, I see now I made it seem like a manual transmission. I meant the lever for the PRNDL.

With the engine running and the shift handle in N will the truck try to move forward? Can it roll backwards in this condition?

With the engine running it will shift into neutral normally and will roll backwards freely.
