I also run a Redhead. I went down the "re-manufactured" road with dismal results. A lot of them are just put together with "good used parts".
My buddy is rep for Advance Auto Parts and says their brand is mostly crap and wont last more than 6 to 12 months. That includes most parts for suspension.
Well. Rock auto had the specs and 4x4 on the stg60rm and I got it but my sticker in door reads front axle is 5200#. So can I use it or do I need to get the other one? I’ve checked 3 other references and they all recommended stg60rm. Very confused now.
I’d contact West Texas Off road, have them rebuild yours and port it for hydro assist. Then you can go with hydro down the road which will significantly reduce the stress on the gear box. When they’re done with yours there will be no doubt it’s tough and will last!
if you have a 4X4 then buy the box speced for a 4 wheel drive, if you RWD then buy the box for the 2 wheel drive.
in case you have never looked at the steering on each they are entirely different steering arrangements, buy the box that matches your vehicles steering, Either 4x4 or RWD.

or just buy a RedHead already ported so your truck isn’t down waiting on dem rednecks
I installed the Red Head a couple of years back after reading many threads here on FTE. I'm sure there may be other sound boxes but I wasn't willing to be one of those to take a chance. It has been a good install. I think sometimes vendors run their course with quality control of their work - change in personnel, heavy demands due to popularity of their product and so forth. When that happens it is time to look for a better mouse trap.
Go with your gut after doing a thorough research of your own, then pull the trigger.

Well, if your gear box fails by definition the truck is down. My PSC Box turn around was 7 days through them. They may have a stock box already on the shelf so whether you call redhead and wait or WTO and wait you’re still waiting...
While all of them are remanufactured OEM units it seems that some of the "smaller" guys (Red Head, Blue-Top) remanufacture to tighter tolerances for an OEM or better experience.
I will tell you that there was a noticeable difference between the Cardone unit I had and the Blue-Top. I'm not sure how the process differs between the two companies but the Blue-Top felt way better than my Cardone ever did. Plus my Cardone started to leak after about 18 months after I bought/installed it.
To me, that's beefier. This wouldn't be the first time that the way I describe something means something completely different to everybody else.
