No. As long as you use water and dish soap to lubricate, the chrome won't scratch If the rust has eaten past the chrome layer, it will still remove the oxidation and look better if isealedi with the wax..

Got that traced today Reamer...

You know guys I am thinking - these really should be available for our trucks. When I get a chance I'll take this to a local shop or two and get a quote to replicate one or more. If it's too expensive to build it complete, maybe at least it could be a "kit" that could be welded together (tubes, sides cut and ready and mounting tabs). Thoughts?

Use paint stripper (aircraft remover) to remove paint, and white diamond polish and an old sock. Don't rub aluminum foil on it and ruin it. Used white Diamond, on various chrome and aluminum pieces, none have rust now. You can buy it at Walmart.

That's quite a find!

If you remove the paint and polish the chrome here is a good product to use. I used it when I refinished the stainless trim on my Oldsmobile and it worked wonders:
Amazon Amazon

FWIW, if you decide to have the brush guard rechromed DO NOT use Goodmark to have it rechromed. I paid them $1400 to rechrome the front and rear bumpers on my Oldsmobile and the chrome is already failing on the rear bumper after a few years.

I have a brush guard here, but it's from some other year. I need a pattern for everything lower that the bottom bar, and the wrap around to the frame...
Thanks!

x2

A good tracing and I'd fab it up. I could do it with a piece of stiff card stock but if someones already done it,

I

Installing it today, crawl underneath to see about the attachment point.... bracing self to have to drill... Lo And Behold, it lines up to a factory frame hole perfectly! Yes.
