2017 super duty lariat sync3. on occassion i try to pop open the tailgate using the button on the dash. tell me if this is right.
while in gear.....will not open
put in park.....still won't open
shut engine off.....still won't open.
open door.....then opens.
am i missing something? i would at least like it to open when in park.
It is easy to forget when your in a rush and tailgate wont go down. After a few times it will become habit. Now if your tailgate goes down on it's own when truck is off and sitting in park you have the dreaded phantom tailgate. Water gets into the wire harness quick connector by the rear bumper for the tailgate, gobs of dilectric grease in the connector will fix it if it happens to you.

This has also happened on many occasions where the release is pressed via key fob in your pocket. I've had this happen to me twice now.

It happens that way also and the button should be in a different location on the fob or use a fingerprint technology. Phantom tailgate not from the fobs in my case. It had happened 3 in the morning heard a boom and tailgate opened against garage door. 1 key fob in dresser 1 on night stand, nothing pressing on them. Then it started happening more often and usually after getting washed or driving in the rain. Would get out of the truck and the tailgate was down. Water in the wire harness connector in my case. Wish list for this truck is a light on the dash for when the tailgate is down I am paranoid about towing with a trailer and smashing the tailgate that went down on its own.
Has anyone figure out how to disable the key fob tailgate button using forscan? I’ve tried a couple of things but haven’t had any success making it work. I have a 2020 F-350 Platinum Tremor

thanks for this question, I have the same issue. I've searched through the owners manual, and can't find any reference to the dash tailgate release!
I’ll confirm that you have to unlock the doors to use the dash tailgate button. Warning, however, never park your truck where your tailgate could hit something when opened. I’ve accidentally opened the tailgate with the fob - fortunately nothing happened except an open tailgate all night that exposed what I had under the tonneau cover...to whoever might have wanted it. But the mechanic damaged my tailgate (we think) when he accidentally either hit the fob or the dash button and didn’t realize his tool box was behind it. Fortunately the dealer paid for the repair, which would have been a huge expense (all the wiring and electronics, taking it apart to repair and repaint, etc.). So...word to the wise, watch what’s behind that tailgate.
yep on the accidentally opening part. any trailers i have i made sure the tailgate clears the cranks. oh, and if you forget your beer on the bumper the tailgate will still open.....and your beer will be spilled.
