i have a 1993 f150 straight six fuel injection my motor will start and i can take it around the neighborhood a couple times but then i think its over heating and shutting off im not 100% that's its over heating because the gauges don't move but i can let it sit and then it will start back up eventually i put a new thermostat in it and i did the gaskets on the plenum and the valve cover while i was doing this i noticed the spark plug where very loose so i tightened them and i also noticed the starter was loose so i tightened that as well but nether of the things i went threw and did should have any affect on it staling the way it dose if anyone has any knowledge on what might be happening please let me know even if u have some things i could check to help eliminate problems that would be great
It could be a problem with the wiring, I had a similar issue happen on my old Taurus like a few years back. There was a fray in the electrical wiring, they had to take the engine block out to get to it but it was messing with the whole system. Keep us updated.
Sure it is not fuel related? After it stalls, push the schrader valve on the fuel rail to see if fuel comes out. Or listen to see if pump runs when you turn key on. Unscrew gas cap and listen. If tank is not venting properly you will hear a "WOOSH" sound.
Is it an auto transmission? If so check the neutral safety switch on the transmission, make sure plugs are in all the way. Check the battery connections, make sure the battery isn't rattling around loose.
so far i have went threw the top end and i replaced the valve cover gasket the plenum gasket the thermostat gasket and thermostat i also had to replace a couple broken vacuum lines i then started to go threw the motor and noticed that the spark plugs where loose so i tightened them and my buddy noticed a spark coming from the starter so i had to tighten that as well after all that was done i filled her up with some radiator fluid and gave her another quart of oil i then went on to change out the battery and the terminals on both wires the final thing i did was put in a new ignition control module in her all and all she is running a lot better but i still think i have a slight problem with fuel delivery because she wants to stall when she is idling and im on the brake and the water temp climes really fast so there is a little more to be done before i try and take her on anything longer then a hour drive but she is getting there and i hope i have better news soon thanks
as suggested, you need to pull codes ... it's free and easy.
also a good idea to check fuel pressure with a gauge ... not free, but extremely helpful and super easy.
