I have a 2017 F250 SD. When I start the truck it logs onto my phone then says loading map so is that the map in the sync 3 which sucks or the map in my phone which is google maps. I sure miss the map that was in my 2011 with Ford Touch.
I like the sync map better. I find it easier to use. I’ve about given up on Apple CarPlay. Sync nav combined with Sirius makes it easy to switch screens and find fuel.
I like google or Waze better as they are constantly updated. The sync map costs about $200 to update, Ours are already out of date. Also you get more up to date traffic.
I use my truck off road a lot and I really miss the forest service roads and GPS coordinates and elevations I used to get with my ford touch. Not much traffic to worry about where we go.

I've run the Google maps app on my phone alongside the sync map while driving coast to coast. I have not found any meaningful difference between them. Nothing to indicate that Google maps are more up to date and certainly haven't seen any difference in traffic, construction, or incident reporting between them.
