MAP Problems

I have a 2006 6.0l and have had recurring issues with the MAP indication. I have a Scan Gauge and am able to see MAP pressure. If I get into the throttle hard I can watch MAP track higher following along with boost pressure plus atm pressure. At about 36.9 psia the MAP indication will drop to 0.0-0.2, (boost still normal) and if I don't back off, after a given time when MAP is not tracking with boost, the truck will shift to limp mode. I can immediately back off the throttle when I see indication go to zero and it will come right back. I pull a 5th wheel and am able to monitor MAP and not allow it to get that high and the truck will be fine. I have tried this in tow/haul and when I am just cruising down the road with no load...same thing happens as MAP climbs to 36.9 psia.

I have replaced the MAP sensor twice and checked the harness that runs from the sensor to the PCM.

Any ideas?

Have you checked the MAP hose where it goes into the intake for plugging? I cleaned an intake today that literally had a pinhole in the goop where the fitting screws into the intake. It wouldn't take much for it to plug and unplug simply from air flow. I'd remove the fitting and make sure it was well cleared and try again.

Id say you are OverBoosting 36psi Boost is Too Much For Stock tuned truck

Your Turbo veins are stuck or VGT Problem or various sensor have failed

It may Lift the Heads with this much Boost I assume this s why it goes into limp mode

Check those sensor 04badford mentions first then move on

My boost never goes above 23-27psi. It is my understanding the the MAP is reading absolute pressure, boost plus atm pressure. Here at altitude my MAP reads about 12.7psia when not running or approximate atm pressure for this altitude. MAP seems to track right along with boost, it just drops to zero when it hits 36.9.

I'm thinking MAP reads atmosphere PLUS boost and the boost is a derived reading. You may be hitting all the PCM will let you have and it's going into a defuel (or deboost?). What RPM's are you seeing your problem happen at? Have you tried having the truck reflashed?

I'd ck the hose to the MAP sensor, I'll bet ya it has a crack in it somewhere

With out looking at the other values its tough to help just guessing, did you clean the EBP and tube, and MAP and tube to the Intake the little nipple and Intake hole gets clogged, EGR Valve? post some values at engine warm-
koeo ( key on engine off)
low ( started no ac, no radio just Idle)
High ( at 2500 rpm)
What Elevation are you ? and did you just get the truck at a lower Elev

KOEO: MAP 12.3 EBP 12.6
Low RPM (Idle): MAP 12.3 EBP 16.5
2500 RPM: MAP 17.8 EBP 30.0

I am in NM at a mile high (5280ft). The truck was a dealer transfer from Kansas,I think. I bought it new here in NM. I have not cleaned the tubes or the EGR, I will do that this weekend.

Here are the normal values for map and EBP
MAP koeo=96 ( 14) low=96 (14) high 103 (15) operating range =41-324psi
EBP=koeo=103(15) low=110(16)high=110(16)operating range=55-607psi
as you can see theres some twist to the puzzle try the EBP and tube, I would like to know when you are looking at the Gauge and have some one tapping on the EBP senser does the values change if so Change EBP senser. next would be VGT , but lets see what cleaning up will do
