Wow, that rocks. XP home and pro are both very good operating systems, both are used here at school. Just about eveyrone runs a computer new enough to have be equipped with it. You remeber that virus that affected XP? Well it completley disabled the Red Hat server. Apparently poor linux didn't realize that everyone was going to go offline at exactly the same time. The IT guy said it sent error messages all over the network and to everyone's integrated email, after that it went offline as a security measure and they had to reboot it.
for all thoughts and purposes I dont consider redhat a real linux distribution, I take it about as seriously as if I saw Microsoft Linux...the all new 299$ version...to DOWNLOAD...retail copies avail. starting at 599$ depending on the # of free apps you would like.
In all honesty it reminds me much to much of windows (though there are a few that are worse, I just dont like redhat's way of turning linux into something thats to...commercial and MS feeling)
I'm a computer repair/networking tech and I would have to agree on XP being a great OS. Anything before Windows 2000 is trash- especially Win ME. 2000 is great, XP is great as well. Usually most problems people have with XP are ones they have caused themselves by trying to modify the OS somehow or installing junk programs such as spyware. For those that don't know what spyware is, go do some reading:
You probably have it on your computer. There are lots of programs out there that claim to remove spyware, and some of them just put more on. The 2 best ones are Spybot Search and Destroy, and Ad-Aware- in that order. You can download them both from www.download.com - just type in the name of the program in the search box and it should bring you to a page to download them. Both programs have help files you should read. Removing the spyware from your computer can make a HUGE difference in how your computer works. Try it and let me know what your results are. Not just XP, any MS operating system can and WILL get spyware from the average person going on the internet with it.
