Just wondering what kind of rust/corrosion you have seen (if any at all) on the 15+ F150s. I bought a new '17 Superduty last fall, but figured that I would post this here as the Aluminum F-150 has now been out three calendar years, and for those of you who are fellow mid-westerners, that means 3 salt covered winters. Body between F150 and SD is similar. Frame is different though.
Basically, just trying to find out what the trouble spots are on these trucks (if any at all). I try to wash mine once a week if possible, but that is hard if the temps are below 28ish (everything instantly freezes). I did spray the frame off yesterday after coating it in snow/ salt yesterday.
I'm 39 years old and lived my whole life in Ohio. First truck was an '84 F150 300/4 speed (bought in 94) that salt pretty much ate. Don't want to see it happen to my 38K SD if possible.
The most complaints that I see here on FTE regarding rust / paint issues on the newer trucks is on the Expedition forums. Guys are commenting about bubbling paint on the rear lift gate and some hood issues, all are aluminum.
If there are any F-150 complaints, I don't remember seeing any.
Could be even better to move to a no-salt state. Guess that might not always be feasible though.
or do not drive it in the salt. I do not drive my 2013 F150 for that reason... it has seen salt before I got it. But it has not seen salt for over 2 years now
used KROWN since 1985 on Crown Victorias and F150s. Never had any rust on them at all. On my aluminum F150, I wasn't keen on having them drill rustproofing holes in the body, so for the first time I just had the underside sprayed vs the whole vehicle. Will see in a few years.

I have read that Krown is the best for rust protection, but it is not available anywhere near me. The only francise of any kind available is 1 hour away, Zeibart. I see mixed reviews. If I knew it was worth it I would make the drive. One of the reasons for selecting my 2016 over the previous generations was the aluminum body. I still need to consider the undercarriage, though. Is Zeibart worth it or should I look in to anything else?
I use CorrosionX on my aluminum airplane and it works wonders. For vehicles back in the day we would just spray the entire underside with diesel. The smell goes away but the oil stays. It will also lubricate everything. We would also do it when a car or truck was squeaking and the noise would all go away.
he 2016 truck I bought is low miles, but from Colorado. I am sure it has at least some rust started. I need it arrested an protected for the future.
Can you tell me about fluid film? I assume you apply it yourself. How do you do this? Do you have a lift or something? Same for CorrosionX. I am not against doing it myself IF it will be as good as commercial applications.

CorrosionX is so good any aircraft owner knows about it, specially if you live near a coast. I had my plane done once so I could see how and where they applied it and now I do it myself every year. Here's a pretty informative video : CorrosionX

I saw a few videos . Pretty interesting stuff. Seems to be a thin film. I thought some have a more waxy type where the build is more permanent. Not sure if that is a help or not. Is the Ziebart a thin film or other?

How do you apply CorrosionX at home?
Cheapest way is to use one of those little tanks with spray wand that you use to spray insecticide around the house but the more you turn it into a fine mist or fog the less product you use. I use an air compressor with one of these spray handles that has a hose on the bottom that sucks up liquid and it all comes out of the handle as a mist (this is an old one I had on hand to take a picture of so you get an idea).
