Vent Repaint

Has anyone repainted the frame around the glass of the side vents in the front doors? I have removed mine to clean up. The worst rust is on the lower metal frame but all of it is painted black. So as I'm removing the paint it seems the frame or part of it is made of stainless steel or highly polishable metal? The paint is coming of rather easy and polishing quite well, hence my guess of s/s? What have you guys done to repaint? I can take a chance of just painting it with good black aerosol but don't think it will adhere to the metal very well. Any thoughts?

I am in the process of disassembling mine right now as well. Since I still have to get the inner fender wells and core support painted from the industrial finisher I am going to have mine sand blasted and painted with the same epoxy paint that is on the frame.

I see Tim you have removed your frame from the glass where I haven't. I'm going to try and leave it intact for now. Anyone have thoughts on the kind of metal Ford used?

One of my wing windows was chipped from someone trying to pry the window open. I figured it was as good a chance as any to get rid of the green glass

I would put a magnet if they stick its not SS. If the magnet doesn't stick might be SS. Post as I was going to rebuild and possibly chrome, but if SS I will polish them out as well.

Ya I'd rather have the stock look...black. But it's certainly something to think about.

jimmystoys,
This past weekend I replaced my Driver's side vent window frame in my 77 F-150. Ordered a replacement from Dennis Carpenter. Both the original I removed and the replacement are metal. I replaced mine because the vent window frame was bent and I was getting allot of wind noise in. Looked like at some point in the past someone either tried to brake in or locked their keys in the truck.
I seem to recall years ago on some cars seeing their vent window frames that were either chrome plated or stainless steel. Back then I just never checked them W/a magnet to make the determination.

When I re-installed the vent window into the new frame, I did not re-use the OEM black plastic window frame seem, because of the rust it created between black plastic and frame, on the bottom at the window's curvature. After removing the scale / rust I used 3-M Black Urethane that comes in a caulking size tube from NAPA.
