The balancer will usually let you know when it's time to change it. Take a look at it with the engine running. If you see the outer ring on them wobbling then it's definitely time to change it.

Hopefully the shop also changed your front crank seal when they did the work.

The balancer is pretty simple to replace. You pull the belt, the crank pulley, then the crank bolt, remove the washer from the bolt and reinstall the bolt. Install the balancer puller, remove balancer, remove crank bolt. Slip the new balancer in place, use a installing tool to push it on all the way( in a pinch I've used the crank bolt with the washer to pull it on all the way ) . Do NOT hammer it on!. Install crank bolt, torque it, install pulley and belt. Since your balancer has been off fairly recently it should come back off pretty easy. But take a look at it first. If it's not wobbling or the rubber between the two pieces isn't in really rough shape don't worry about replacing it.

I'm going to add this: Keep in mind there's a square "key" on the crank that positively locates the damper in relation to the crank. Make sure it's still on the crank when you pull the damper and reinstall it.

Preventive

Stick w/ standard Fuel Filter, Air Filter, PCV, Spark Plugs; about the time you sink high $$ into an OLD truck w/ Low value, you will wreck, maybe not be your fault, but insurance will not pay what u need :-(

Knowing that the alternator, Distributor and all the smog equipment, (EGR valve, Air

Pump, Cats ETC..) Fuel pump, Fuel pressure regulator, Fuel Injectors, Etc are original

and are going to fail eventually, maybe any day, I am considering a plan to start

swapping out parts before they fail. I figure I would start with the Fuel Pump and FPR

then move on to the smog stuff.

This is my DD and I have no other vehicle, that is the reasoning behind this idea.

What do y`all think?
