oil pan

Putting a new crate engine in my 81 F100. Stock uses a rear sump oil pan. All the engines I have found available offer either a front sump or dual sump pan. It appears a front sump won't work but am curious if the dual sump pan will work? Anybody out there tried it?

When I built a 351W for my 1981 F100 to replace the 302 it came with, I ordered a

351W oil pan from a Dealer that fitted a 1983 to 1986 Ford truck. It is a rear sump

and fits fine. This was quite a few years ago. I think Dorman makes a similar pan

now that would work for your crate engine in that chassis.

Thanks, I have the old oil pan I can use. I was just hoping that since the crate motors come with a pan I could save myself a step.

I have heard the dual sump pans do fit these trucks, but it's very difficult to get to the front drain plug to drain all the oil. Maybe if you wanted to fit one of those quick style drain valve things on it, possibly that would work. I have never tried it.
