Hi I own an 83 6.9 diesel with the duel fuel tanks. My truck is stuck on the rear tank it will not switch to the front. Truck still runs and stays on rear when I switch. It's' cold right now so I was wondering if it were possible that the lines may freeze and cause this, or if it's probably just the switch, or if it could be anything else. Just looking for someone's educated opinion. Thank you in advance.
The easiest thing to do is use a test light or multimeter to check for 12V at the fuel select valve. Have a buddy toggle the switch in the cab back and forth while you probe the electrical connections at the fuel select valve on the frame. If your test light illuminates or you detect 12V on your multimeter you know the switch on the dash is good. You should hear the fuel select valve toggle.
Check the fuses first off; that's the #1 issue. I forget which fuse it is that triggers the FSV, but it does something else as well. I've had the fuse blown on a couple of rigs when I got them; replaced it and hey! it works!
