Reusing spring/tension clamps

So, what happened was, I ordered an extra water pump 7yrs ago, for my L99. Fast forward to this past Saturday, I go to install it in my 02. No biggie, plug and play, right? Pump was, but not the bottom hose. The 99 pump had a snorkel, the 02 has a straight spout. Ok, go get me a 99 bottom hose..job complete...NOPE. Realized, the spring clamp that's on the 02 hose, has a 2.25 I'd. The 99 hose is flared to about 3in...no way I the 02 clamp going to work.... Here's the kicker, I can FORD, they tell me that when something like a hose needs replacing, they use worm clamps in place of the spring..
. So, would you guys use a worm clamp or find a used spring for hose security?

I think that dealer does that to avoid warranty issues. Much cheaper to throw in (or charge for) a couple of clamps than risk a warranty repair because the old clamp didn't quite get put back in the right spot.

I never trusted those spring clamps and always used to replace them every chance I got, but then started to realize I had never actually seen one fail so I stopped worrying so much about replacing them. But it did take me at least a decade to get comfortable with them.

As for the water pump, I thought the bottom snorkel was removable? It's been a while, so I don't remember if you have to bolt the fitting from the 02 pump on to the 99 pump to make the old hose work or not.

That's just it, when I did the pump on the 99, in 2011, I reused the clamps with a new hose. The clamp at the radiator leaked, so i doubled it with a when..no more leak. The clamp at pump, held back the fluid.

. Now, the pump I replaced on the 02, had a "straight" spout, but was god awful looking. It wasn't until I already installed the new pump with the new snorkel, that ill need a new/small bottom hose, which then, the clamps came into an issue. The 02 hose had exact size on both ends where the 99 hose has 2.5 at radiator and 3"ish at pump snorkel...

I like them tension clamps, but if "you" feel that worms are suffice, then ill continue on and fill the system...i need to move truck from side of house and put trailer there. Came back from being rented out..

The spring clamps are easier on the hose & retain there tension, but are prone to weep if surfaces are less than perfect,Worm clamps usually always seal but tend to cut in to hose more & require retensioning after time.

Alright crop.. Taking into constrain eggs at you just said, IF you had same pumps installed with same bottom hose, BUT the truck you want to sell has the tension, and the other your keeping, has a worm.... Would you switch or roll the dice with the worm?
. I have no doubt, the worms' suffice but damn, tryn to convince myself is another story. Guess, I can double up the worm...(haha, that didn't sound right)..

Worm clamps have been around and been successfully used much longer. The tension clamps were switched to because they could be installed cheaper and quicker in the factory during production.

Go find a 50 or 60 year old car and it will have worm clamps on it. Heck I've got a 64 pick up that has some worm clamps that are at least 40 years old, if not older. No reason to change the clamps when you change the hoses unless something is wrong with it.

Quote.. "The tension clamps were switched to because they could be installed cheaper and quicker in the factory during production "

crazy you mentioned that. Was talking with neighbor, (retired diesel mechanic", and showed him how the tension clamp was glued to the hose. He said, that's because, before them glueing it, there's were 2 jobs in the assy line. One to install hose, the other to secure it. Now, to cut cost, apply clamp fixed to hose, now you only have 1 guy to install....wild!
