Thanks Scott. She seems to be OK, just a little sore, and sleeping while I type. She heals better then I currently do, but I think I’ll do the snow clearing myself this time.

No thinners, trying to get her to see a doc I’ve learned is something she alone will make the decision. There’s an ambulance crew and two police officers in Pt Pleasant Beach that have now learned that lesson. No yelling, just the look.

Its 61* down in the valley below you Mr. D-Dan / Scott /WTH is with all the different alias's there BTW ? LOL

But its been below freezing in the mornings almost everyday last week at my house. Had to let truck run 15 minutes to clear the glass at 5:30 am almost everyday to leave for work. But its still managing close to 70* in the afternoons.

Northern Cali is more and more like Los Angeles every year. Lots of us would welcome that snowfall but the fact I thought I saw it in Florida is bazar I must admit. '

For all of you that plug in the block heater every night....but don't like clearing ice and snow from the windshield and shivering while you wait for the heated seats to warm up........

Get yourself a small "ceramic" electric heater with a fan, put it in the cab and get a good heavy-duty timer (one capable of switching 15-20A or more)

If you like using a Battery Minder, you can hook it up too.

Connect both the block heater and space heater set on low (750w etc) to the timed power cord and set it to come on about 4-5 hours prior to you wanting to drive the truck. (depending on how big the breaker is on your outlet, you might pop the breaker if you use HIGH.

I found that the LOW setting was more than adequate in the cab and the block heater didn't seem to need any more than about 4 hours or so.
(if it's -25, you can experiment with what works. I would even consider trying a small space heater in the engine compartment (but ONLY with a diesel!!!)

For a 0700 departure, I would set my timer to come on at about 0300 and shut off at 0800 etc.....

I placed my heater (identical to the one above) on the floor a few inches in front of the drivers seat with the airflow directed forward. I did this with temps well into the mid teens

In the morning all your glass will be clear of ice and snow, the cab will be (relatively) warm and the engine will start right up! (just don't forget to unplug it all before leaving!)

Cheers,

Rick

My first Diesel Truck was a '99 F250 4x4 7.3 -- we name pretty much everything, and then even those things with names can have nicknames or multiple names. The F250 was named Diesel Dan, but mostly went by Dan. The truck he replaced was a '91 F250HD 4x4 with 4.11s and a 460 -- he didn't like passing gas stations, his name was Gus the Guzzler, but we just called him Gus... We had a Durapuke and we hated it so much it never got a name (should have named it get the ***** outa' here). So current truck is really Dan II, but we call him Dan...

I'm Scott, but I imagine my wife has a multitude of names for me other than that, and I'm not talking "hon"....

What's your name, or should I just not be lazy and go see if it is in your profile...? Every time I see a nice 6.0 around, I wonder if he's a FTE brother and just can't tell...

You take a look at the temp delta map Jack posted???! It's probably because we have so many dark colored solar panels out west...

Scott

Here is a funny thing. The old truck now called project got a
little heater placed in the cab along with one of those air
dryer tubs to pull the moisture out of the air so I don't end
up with a nasty mess in the cab from sitting in all this damp air.
I had to turn the heat on when I first put the fan in to just
get all that moist air to thaw a bit. Now the air is a bit dryer
I can turn the heater off and just let the fan run.

I have been using a little space heater in cars and trucks that were left outside for nearly 20 years. This works REALLY good using a timer and subsequently doesn't use a lot of electricity.

Now, it would be really cool if you could order it all built in ..............complete with capability to operate the regular heating system using electric resistance heat in a new car or truck on AC power along with a block heater) You would just have to remember to unplug before driving off.... An ignition lock out of some sort would accomplish that.....

I'd add battery warmers if we're going all out.

When we went for cold weather development trips we had block heaters and battery warmers. For those vehicles that had a lot of instrumentation, we ran heaters in the cabs, too.

Well after our 12.6" of snow today the temps are dropping. It's now down to 19° already. With the 45mph winds today the drifts were 3+ feet in spots and my little John Deere with a plow barely got the job done. I need a 4x4 enclosed cab bucket loader. Maybe next year.

Nice job Jack. This storm was deffinetly a job for a blower/thrower. Of course mine was in the back of the one garage and hasn't been running yet this year so it sat.
I always get to involved and forget to get pics. Dang it.

This snow was easy for it. We usually don't get this kind of powder. Even the street plow berm was light.

Those old Gravelys do well. That's a later model Ariens 32" adaptation in front of a later model 2 wheel with a B&S twin 16hp. I still have a "dog eater" old reel, had the mid years Gravely "snow cannon" which threw harder, both behind Kohler 12s. I have 2 steel plows and a broom too, all can be used for snow. If you want to get energetic you can throw a boom on after blowing or plowing and get right down to pavement, better then anything else I've seen.

After a few years of people seeing what mine can do they've all bought blowers. Today was OK for them, but with a wet snow I end up going around and helping at least with the compacted berms. You need torque with the Shore's wet snow and the HD/Lowes units aren't often up to the need.

What I like about my blower setup is I can put the snow where I want, so if another storm comes up before this melts (as it usually does in NJ) I don't run out of room. When I've used the plow I've had that issue. Of course a loader with a cab allows you to do that better and faster.

Well they do make that shore power plug that spits the cord out just as
soon as you turn the key to start the engine or how ever it is setup.

For $180 I won’t get that lazy. For the fire truck that’s about to do a mad dash to my house, priceless.
