Welp, if it takes more than 2.5 minutes of my time I am an impatient sucker and I just ran over to the stealership and they had a new filter housing and gasket kit sitting there ripe for the taking, so I took it. I appreciate the contact info from our fearless leader, Per4mance did shoot me Jeff's info very quickly. Unfortunately, I have the patience of a 3 year old when it comes to purchasing and the thought of 'brand new' always overcomes any urges to find 'cheaper used', not that it necessarily means the quality is different, that's just how it works in my head.

The new housing is an upgrade, technically, to the 6.4 filter housing, based on the part number which now VIN-matches to my 2003 in the tech database or whatever. The plus side of this is that I don't have to muck around with the stupid spring seat sleeve and o-ring that were being such a pain in the butt and contributing to why the threads got stripped in the first place. The 6.4 housing is cast differently to remove the need for the sleeve and the plunger slides right in against the aluminum instead. I like this design MUCH better, that sleeve can go kick rocks.

Turns out the OEM housings don't have the threads for the regulator cover, so I'm wondering if Ford just rams self tapping screws in there, which helps explain why the threads were so crappy in the first place. With the new housing, I ditched the galvanized screws or whatever type of metal screws came with the Ex and the Sinister kit (both magnetic) and got my own stainless steel M5x0.8 screws. I also threw on some interior star lock washers for additional security. My buddy with metalworking knowledge is the one who made all those suggestions, I didn't come up with them on my own. I took everything out to his shops and we got the threads bottom-tapped correctly took all the parts off the old housing. He is going to keep the old housing and weld up the cracked parts and helicoil it so that it is reusable it the event I come across anybody (or myself) in need of a replacement.

Here's the product in its current state. Much easier to do this crap on my mudroom floor as opposed to hanging over the edge of my hood on a step ladder holding hoses with pry bars...

i can tell you thats exactly what they do.. had the same issue with some other parts i bought to replace factory ones.. none were pretapped.. ended up doing it myself and came out better than the old ones.. wish i could remember what the last assembly was i bought that none of the holes were pretapped.. had several screws i needed to thread of different sizes..
