steering column seal ??

I'm using this column bracket at the floorboard... but still have a gap around the column to let in the cold and wet...

what are you guys doing to seal this hole... I don't see anything at Mid-50 that will work without redoing or spending a fortune... how bout just a sheet of flat rubber with the right sized hole in it ??? or heck... silicone...

I have used old inner tube rubber before .
Make the hole smaller than the column so it is a tight fit around the column .

I’ve used PVC shower floor liner to make seals. It’s 5’ wide and about $8 a linear foot. It’s pretty thick. Being PVC I don’t think it would hold up to direct exposure to oil or gas, but should be okay at the steering and pedal area.

Interesting. My phone went to sleep, and when I picked it up it sent the same message again.

I used the same clamp, but mounted it on the underside of the plate I made to cover the old column and pedals opening. I have a hole in the fabricated plate almost the same diameter as the steering column, so it only required a bead of RTV too seal the column at the bottom of the plate.

Rubber roofing material used on flat roofs was my plan before I switched to a Flaming River column. How big a piece do you want?

I used a CV joint boot from an old front wheel drive car. I had a boot kit laying around so I figured I would give it a try. I just cut several of the rings out of the small end so that the radius was slightly smaller than the column. It slid over the bottom of the column and covered the hole.

It's nasty cold up here right now and the truck is in storage so unfortunately I can't get a picture for you right now.

Packaged gasket/grommet material

John.

I used a sheet of 6" x 6" flat rubber gasketing material from the hardware store, cut slightly smaller than the coluum, as most have done.

Does this mean you are going to be driving that beauty this summer ? Don't be a tease!

I hope so Tom... starting to find things that don't seem to fit when you get ALL the pieces in place together... it's been a long project and this is the first time I've had everything in place together... like when I did the fuel lines the steering linkage wasn't in place...move the fuel line. Flex SS brake lines that were ordered when the Volare was in place are too short for the MII rack... I'm wearing out the UPS man one box at a time

Summer time will be the goal and it's an optimistic goal... I wanna get it driveable to get it to the alignment guy and exhaust system maker... whole lot easier than trailering and pushing... but that also requires wiring to be somewhat in place... chip, chip, chip

Kind of like building a house, where you see real progress then it seems to stall.

You keep chipping away John, and it will come together...as you know. It is going to get a lot of looks this summer.
