Ported box?

Ported box?

I just ordere a custom sub box for my new 12" audiobahn aw1200q subs. The guy said that just by porting a new box and customizing it he can make my sub 2-3 times louder than it hits now. that sounded GREAT to me seeing as how i have a small amp for that sub. My question is why does it make it soo much louder?

Ported box?

bass is all about sound waves and air. the more air that can escape the more sound waves get to you. a ported box allows that excess air to get out thus more thump.

To put in succinctly, the port/vent acts as a second sub. It won't make it 2-3 times louder, though. It will definitely be noticeably louder (2-5 dB's, depending on many factors), and go deeper. It will become a bit more efficient, too. SQ won't be quite the same, but hey, you bought A'bahns' to get loud
