Sometimes it can run for 10-15 seconds if the truck has sat for a while and the vacuum pressure was lost. If it runs constantly, then there is a leak.
It went off. Alls good except I somehow lost the radio. That's another day, though. For now, the truck's running. Still waiting on the relay - may be doing that tomorrow by the looks of it. Thanks guys!

Is the radio OEM? There have been all sorts of issues reported with those things, I could not even name half of them. On my truck, it would turn on and off whenever the hell it felt like. Then, when it was on, the CD player would attempt to read a disc whenever the hell it felt like.
I checked all of the wiring and everything was good, the fault was in the head unit somewhere. I replaced it and all has been good for 3+ years.

Aftermarket - just had it installed in June for a trip we took in August. Not sure if it's getting power or not. That's something I have to look in to.

Mine has a relay somewhere going bad, sometimes it takes a minute for all that stuff to wake up, sometimes I have to cycle the key to get it woken up.
Windows work fine. I thought the same thing. Before there were times where my windows wouldn't work. At the same time, the radio was dead. When the radio came on, the windows started working, too. There is a relay behind the dash that may have gone south. All fuses are good (meter checked). I may have loosened something while working on it. I'll be checking today.
On a good note, my relay came in last night. Man, is that thing big! 🤤 I haven't checked yet, but does it matter which "command wire" goes where as long as there's one on each small lug?
Got it in. Starts up maybe the best it has in the 4 years I've had it. It was a little chore getting the mounting nuts tight, but I got them snugged up after a while. Still no radio. I may just bring it to the shop that installed it and let them figure it out. We're fighting a cold in the house and I really don't feel like going out in the weather now. Thanks again everyone.
If you still have the old relay and have the time disassemble it. It's interesting to see the guts. Looks the same as my 97 and inside there are two round disks. On each cycle top disk rotates slightly so the contact area are different when engaged to the posts. Bet the disk is welded to the posts due to arching. Here is a picture of that disk and you can see the weld marks over time, about 170K on the truck. This causes less surface contact between the disk and posts over time, just aggravating the cold start issue.
This is the assemble as pulled out of the housing. The bottom disk is part of the coil assembly ...
Empty housing, the two wires are the (2) smaller wires connected to the GPR, the other two are the main terminals where you can see arching over the years ...
I question what the glow plugs are like after having been stuck on for that period of time a time or two. I believe that they get pretty hot in a short period of time.

I too would be interested to see the glow plugs. This might lend a bit more information to the thread Y2KW57 has going too.

Thought the same thing myself. We don't get real cold here, but still in the 30's. I'll see tomorrow at 5 in the AM.
