I installed a tach in my 64 pickup. Its in and it works and has been for several months. However, where do I hook up the illumination wire??? Do I just splice it in to one of the headlight wires? If so which one? I would like to splice it into the wires under the hood going to the lights instead of under the dash.
I'd really recommend you do it behind the dash. Chances are there are some blank connectors in there already you can just push a connector into. My '65 had two extra illumination lines. Easy enough to check with a test light.
Ironically, I just put a tach in my truck today and it hits 6 grand as soon as the key is turned to the on position and stays there. What the
Why not connect your tach light wire into your instrument light system at headlamp switch, like most folks do? That way it will behave/ do same thing Dash/ Guage lights do. . On -Off -Bright - Dim etc etc??? FBp
if you remove the dash you can slice it into any one of the dash lights and it will work with the light just as your dash lights do. Its easier then it sounds. Should only take 5 minutes. With these old trucks the wiring is so simple and straight forward.
