04 No Start

I couldn't get my 04 F350 5.4L auto to start. The dash lights and such come on when I turn the key to start. I have checked the starter, and battery and both are good. I replaced the ignition switch and fuel pump recently. When I wiggle the shifter the truck will start. Do I need to tighten the shifter cable or is it something else?

Could be too much slop in the linkage (loose bolts), worn out shifter tube bushings, stretched cable. I'd certainly check those before throwing any parts at it as suggested.

In any event, your truck doesn't have a "neutral safety switch", it has a DTR sensor what has the NSS function built into it.

Thank you. I found 1 of the 2 bolts lose on the shifter shaft. I tightened the loose bolt so I will wait and see if that fixes the problem.

If you get stuck somewhere try shifting into neutral and starting it.

I replaced the bushings on the shifter shaft and that seems to have corrected the problem.
