For the last couple of weeks been having this starting issue.... Sometimes it starts and sometimes it don't. When it doesn't you can hear and feel the relays click under the dash, can cross the starter over and it will start. I have replaced the Safety switch on the Tranny, only to end up with the same issue. Anybody got any suggestions???
with problems of the sort I start with battery connections, battery condition, chassis grounds, then start trouble shooting components in each circuit that relates to the problem.
Is your shifter loose? I know you said you replaced the "safety switch" but there are 2 torx screws at the base of the column that are a common issue as well. And free to check.
Aside from that as stated, you may want to look into connections and solenoid issues.
Ended up tightening up the transmission shifter cable. The shifter had some play in it. I think it was holding the safety in just in front of those two screws. Seems to be starting consistently now.....

Take your starter off and have it tested. If it shows weakness of engaging, it is most likely the starter solenoid. Call Nations Starter & Alternator- Best Quality Starter & Alternator Supply! and talk to them about getting a on the starter solenoid. Easy to install on the starter and whole lot cheaper. Had the same problem as you (for months), but wanted to keep my starter. Did not have a 're builder' close by. Called Nations and was told that the solenoid on the starter was all I should need. I had changed out the solenoid on the fender and that did not help.
