I have a 2004 fordf350 with a 6.0. the truck just stopped running driving down the road. I have changed the crank and cam sensors. I have oil pressure but no rpms. I understand the cam sensors gives feed back. Can it be my ficm ? Looking for some feedback. Mac.
hi guy to get by
First things first, stop throwing parts at it. Fill us in on the history, purchase, mileage and past history of repairs. Do you have any scanner to read codes or see what is going on?
You came to the right place and the fellows will be here to answer all your questions.
I bought the truck used with 164,000 and it has 168,000 on it now. The truck had an egr delete and open exhaust. I can hear the fuel pump running and it stops when it hit pressure. I dropped off the truck for an alignment and they test drove down the road about a mile according to the shop and they said it just quit. I have been driving the truck to the night before i dropped it off with no issues. It turns over good i have an sct tuner on my dash set to operate in street mode and to keep the check engine light off for the delete. Thanks, mac
Just want to confirm - when you crank, it turns over strongly but you don't get an rpm reading on the dash or on the SCT?
If so, double check the crank sensor wiring harness. Make sure it isn't chafed.
If the above doesn't reveal anything then you need to scan it for codes and (if the SCT doesn't do so) get a scan tool that reads engine parameters (you really need one even if you didn't have problems at the moment) and check for:
Sync (cam/crank sync)
Fuel pulse width
IPR% duty cycle
You should see 0 fuel pulse width AND the IPR default to 14% without a CKP signal (which is what is most common with a "no rpm signal").
If it does indicate a CKP issue, the next step would be:
To troubleshoot the ckp sensor: check the resistance between the connector on the PCM Pin 30 (harness side) and Pin 41 (harness side). Resistance should be 300-400 ohms.
There are some expensive ones that are nice (Edge CTS and AutoEnginuity are in this category but the AutoEnginuity is more of a diagnostic tool, SnapOn makes some god diagnostic scan tools)
A scangaugeII is very functional and has a mid-range price tag (clunky interface though)
The most economical ones are the phone/tablet apps with a bluetooth or wifi adapter. These are Torque Pro, Forscan, DashCommand, DashBoss.
