Another tire/wheel question!

08 Mountaineer, 4.0

I guess the previous owner used street curbs to guide his vehicle down the rode.

The original dream was to get 17" wheels and larger tires but I didn't want the ties to far outside the fender. A 0 or -6 offset wouldn't work for me. I decided I would get 17" wheels with some positive offset and use 255/70 (about 31x10) General Grabber at2 tires. "Hind site is always 20/20". Wish I would have bought 16" wheels, more selection and cheaper tires in general. The deal is done on the 17" wheels.

I am replacing the OEM 18x7.5, +44mm offset wheels with 17x8.5, +18 offset. Unfortunately, I have since learned that General tire company discontinued the A/T2 tires and the 255/70R17 size is not as easy to find in a more aggressive tread unless your willing to spend 200-250+ per installed tire. I am not!

QUESTION: Anyone running 265/70R17's? Do you know how much offset your wheel has? Have you lifted or leveled? Do the tires rub at all? How wide is your wheel. I found a site that says 265 tires are to wide for an 8.5" rim. Anyone disagree? Why?

Thanks!

I cant say about the fit on an explorer, but I have 265 x 70 x 17 on a F150 and it has 7.5 inch wide FACTORY rims. ............... their offset is 14 mm
