Not sure about this, but I think the green grommets were only used in the 1975 model years. I don't know why it wouldn't work in a 78, unless maybe there was a wiring change that Ford made in the module hookup.....?
Biggies10, if you're still trying to get the green module to work on the Lincoln, try reversing the purple and orange wires going into the distributor. (This changes the stator polarity).
If it still won't start, then put the purple and orange wires back as original, and switch the purple and black wires. The black is a ground wire on the "blue grommet" modules. These colored wires may have differed on the "green grommet" 1975 model modules.....
