I am thinking about buying a 1986 Lincoln with very low miles on it and it is out of the area that I live in. The ad says it has a 5.0 liter CFI engine in it. I did not think Ford ever used CFI (two injectors in a throttle body), I know that GM did. The photos I looked at of the car shows under the hood pictures and they look the same as my 1990 Crown Vic, and it has EFI. Can anyone enlighten me?
I would guess it is a mistype - they meant EFI. The Lincoln my parents owned was an '86, and it had the same 5.0 as the nextdoor neighbor's '86 Crown Vic...
I know, from the pictures I seen that it has the same intake air plenum as my 90 Crown Vic with EFI. If it had CFI, I think they used a regular round type air cleaner mounted like it would be on a carburator.
I agree that it is probably a misprint in the ad for that '86 Lincoln, I believe too that it is in fact an EFI, not a CFI, my '83 Lincoln has CFI, but I think they went to EFI in '85 or '86
How good is the CFI system, and how much CFM do you think it is? I am looking to retrofit a TBI system onto one of my engines, and would like to stay with Ford parts.
The '86 Lincoln my parents had replaced their '85 Crown Vic. The Crown Vic was CFI, which was the last year they used it (as far as I know). '86 was when they went to EFI throughout the board on their car lines.
FORDSIX, The CFI is no good, a good Motorcraft 2150 2v carb is much better, if you want to go injected I'd go with a EFI setup, which can be gotten from a later 302, and mated to your truck with the help of folks like Windsor-Fox, and/or Painless wireing.
In your opinion, They work just fine, but
don't get the T-body from a run of the mill
5.0L, get one from a Mustang, as they have
higher flow injectors, and the T-body is
rated for about 500cfm...

And how much is he willing to pay for all
that great (NOT) EFI system?? Is it going
to be all available in his local wrecking
yard at really good prices??

Cubic dollars for someone on a budget, you
could build your own EFI system for less than
what a used set of 24lb/hr injectors would cost...
What I am looking to do is get a TBI system, without having to pay some exhorbitant price to Holley. I wouldn't use a 2150 on my truck if I was paid to. I had one on a 351m, a 351w, and when I first built my 300-6, it had one. Never again! I am looking for good off-angle runnability, and I am either going with a Quadrapuke, or TBI. I have the Q-crap, the truck avenger is way too expensive, and it still has most of the Holley problems, starvation on the primarys, etc. Oh yeah, this is going on a 351c, not the 300-6.
