I believe the Black stripe requires the most vacuum, meaning it gives the firmest and highest RPM shift. I know the black is the hardest/highest shifting modulator, but can't remember if it's Purple then Green being the lowest/softest, or Green then Purple. The Black stripe is considered the "performance" modulator. I put one in my '83 F-250 C6 when the trans was shifting like a girl. It really firmed up the shifts.

I think it goes black-purple-green on the vacuum scale. Pretty sure the green was used mainly for lighter duty vehicles that were not intended to see the kind of workloads that heavier duty trucks were often subjected to, with the purple being a "happy medium" between the the black and green.
Of course, most are also adjustable, making the possibilities quite vast.
