Went out and started my truck today and after about a minute, fluid started pouring out of the bottom front of the bell housing. The fluid was very foamy and i was messing with the transfercase floor shifter the day before. 78 4x4 351m.
Front pump, seal, torque converter?
Any ideas?

Have you added fluid recently? I seem to recall that over filling can lead to foaming and burst seals. Not speaking from my own experience. I do feel uncertain reading the level on my tranny dip stick. Read it while hot idling in park, but it always seems like the dipstick is gathering fluid from the tube walls, so I'm never sure.
The last C-6 that I worked on had the wrong dip stick installed in it and owner kept overfilling it by two quarts unknowingly. At speed it would belch out the fluid through the vent. Called the number in from the dipstick to a dealer and got the right one for the application. Also for some time Ford supplied gray silicone rubber front seals that shrank and oil went right by them. I only use the orange silicone rubber seals.from Napa Parts. Another way the trans will spew oil would be from a restricted/clogged cooler or cooler line. To make sure the right dipstick is in the beast, drop the oil pan (Which is a good way to see what if any crud is laying in the pan) and check the screen for restriction and then make sure the full mark on the stick is even with the pan rain on the case itself. Use a straight edge if you can't eyeball it. If it is off, remark the dipstick. I have seen the vents clogged with mud as well. If this truck will be used for water crossings I would advise a hose onto the end of the vent and carry the end up the front side of the firewall. Water in an automatic will destroy it. In closing make sure you have cooler flow of the ATF. Easy check.
Thanks a lot, i appreciate the help.
I have not put any fluid in it and have only driven it a few times since i purchased it. The fluid was on the mark but again, not sure if its the right dipstick. I will check on that.
Whats the best way to clean the vent?
There is no vent, just a plug. Could that be the reason?
I was also noticing today that the bell housing is cracked and there is quite a chunk missing. So Im looking at buying a reman but not sure which way to go. Im leaning towards a TCI or Patriot. Anyone have experience with either of these or is there another good alternative?
Thats what i meant. The auto school I went to just called them all bell housings, converter housing is a new one to me but any who. Any good remans out there that arent overpriced?
