ive got a bone stock 390 im getting ready to put in my 76 highboy with a c6. i was thinking about putting a rv cam in of some sort just to make it have some thump. this truck will very rarely be driven, and i want the cam for sound only. what is the biggest cam i can use with the stock springs?
Hi mate, take it from someone that has done this previously that getting away with your stock rate springs is a big plus. A very tame cam designed as a mild improvement from stock will be just the ticket, especially if the rest of your engine is stock or close to it.
Here is an Elgin grind from Falcon Performance that I was considering, it comes with the timing kit as well so you don't need to refit the old stretched unit.
I got a lifter & camshaft kit from Falcon and they were great, had it inside a week and I'm in Australia! Easy install, fired straight up and zero regrets. Very reasonably priced as well, I think all of the above will be about $210 or so - hard to beat for new cam, lifters and timing chain!
Looks good to me, has the springs, gaskets and lube included. Can't go wrong for the price either. I didn't see the ultimate kit in Falcon's store otherwise I definitely would've linked it. Like I said, I've bought cam/lifters/etc from them before and the experience was nothing but positive.
