cam selection for 390
I am however picking a new old one up tomarrow for $350
I need some help picking the right cam for my motor. I am buying a 76 f150 with a 390 4v. Its got a edlebrock 600 cfm carb on stock intake now. It has long tube headers. I want somthing that is gonna give me a lopey idle and I like to get into higher rpm's. but I dont want to have change out a buch of valve train components. I am planning on picking up a new roler timing chain to do while the cam is goin in. I looked at comp cams high energry and then the magnum. on the comp cams website it says for the magnum 33-226-4(part number) grind 270h advertised 270/270 and at .050 with 224/224 and a .519 valve lift. Can I get away with this cam with stock components. It also says its for a flat tappet. If I remember correctly my last 390 was a hydraulic lifter, does that have anything to with the tappet? I am kinda lost and need some schooling! Please help me. If I am off with this cam can anyone suggest a good one for what I am after. I am not trying to sound ignorant but probably am. Please educate me on cams!
