I own a 2005 E-150. Some months ago, an inept thief attempted to pop the passengers side door lock cores out of the passenger door and the double door. God knows what manner of tools this guy was using; not only did he mangle the lock cores, he did considerable damage to the metal of the door surrounding the lock core (it is buckled out somewhat and paint chipped away). Were it not for the body damage, I think that I could do the repairs myself with a little help from my friends. But the body damage gives me pause.
I live in Dallas, and wonder if anyone on this forum could suggest an honest and affordable mechanic/body expert that could take a squint at the damage and give me a comprehensive estimate?
I had this same thing happen on my '92 cube van few years ago.
Only problem was, "they" got in, and cleaned the tools out
I repaired the door cylinder with a piece of 18 ga sheet metal, cut square as a patch over the damaged area, about 2-1/2" square, made a new cut-out for a new cylinder, and pop riveted it to the existing door, still using the slip-clip inside the door to hold the cylinder in place.
Does is look pretty, no. Is it functional, yes. Looks almost like a trim piece around the lock cylinder
Didn't paint it, as the sheet metal I used was galvanized.
The next time some *insert a choice word here* tries this, the heaver gauge metal will be too much effort for the basic crack head.
