The ignition switch cylinder on my 2000 Ranger gets stuck when going from the run position thru off to the accessory position. (I like to listen to the news before I head into work) I'm afraid that one of these days it's going to break and I won't be able to turn it.
If I remember correctly, on my old '88 F-150 it had a rod from the cylinder down to the switch. The link in that would break. Does the ranger have something similar? Can I spray some lube into the cylinder or just replace it if there is no rod going down to the actual switch?
I can't access my service manual as it's on my old non-running computer and the disk won't install on the new computer. (new cd ordered though)
My '96 had something similar. the pin connecting the two halves together came out. What a PITA to repair. It would have been easier to swap in a used column from the parts yard.
Hopefully it won' be that bad. Going to look at it over the weekend. O'Reilly auto parts only show the cylinder and the switch itself. Maybe the service manual DVD will show more when it gets here.
I may just luck out. Tried my spare key and it worked so smooth. Compared both keys, and the one I've been using is well worn compared to the spare. Going to have another spare made before I change the cylinder.
