1951 226H Harmonic Balancer

Just got a call from a local friend that is rebuilding my motor. He said the harmonic balancer has a bad crack in the key-way and the rubber is pretty much gone.

The number on the part is 7HT-6316. I was not able to find the part at the usual places, but was able to find one on Ebay that states it is for a 226H but the part number is 8HA-6316. I assume based on other parts this is from a passenger car versus a truck.

My question is, are there other sources for this part. If not, will the 8HA part on the a truck motor.

Thanks for the help...

This is the ID engineering number marked on the part, it's not the part number!
A8TZ-6312-A .. Crankshaft Pulley Assy - Includes Damper / 5.91" front O.D - 7.25" Damper O.D. / Obsolete

1948/51 226 I-6; 1950/53 254 I-6.

No Ford dealer or obsolete parts vendor has any.

8HA-6316-A is not the part number either.

Here's the pic of the 6312 section from the truck parts catalog. Do you see 6316 listed below 6312? No you don't because there's no such part number.

Bill,

Thanks for the information.

I saw the 6312 in the parts catalog and did not see the 6316. I was going by the number my friend told me over the phone.

I guess this means I go to plan B. I will try to find a used one now that I have the right number.

I have a 48-55 Parts Book dated November 54. It shows 6316 Damper Assy. It shows 8MTH-6316-B. Yet another number that is obsolete.

Seems to me one thing to try is get Damper Doctor/Dudes in on the hunt, any that you'll find will need rebuilding anyway.

Just saw this on ebay.

1948-1951 Ford 226 H series 6 cylinder crankshaft damper 8HA-6316 NOS.

Item # 272754685573

I have no connection to this.

Thanks, Rich

The two numbers seem to have the specs. At least it will allow me to broaden the search.

Thanks, Ted

I knew there were companies that did the service, but did not have a contact.
