No matter the valve configuration, every reciprocating engine has a harmonic where it operates at peak efficiency, power, and torque--and this is where manufacturers are heading with these new 7- 8- and 10-speed automatics, in an effort to tune out general but inefficient wide-range operations in favor of one rpm range operation.

What makes OHC superior is valve timing control: minimize lash buildup, and you control timing far more precisely that can be done with about 12" of additional reciprocating mass and lash.

Truth is, if we were to be honest here, turbine-electric hybrids will be the next major wave in trucks. You can't argue with the efficiency of a turbine, and the 0-rpm max-torque output of an electric drive motor.
Before the Detroit 60 Series came out in 1986, most heavy duty diesels were pushrod designs. There were a few Caterpillars that were OHC, but they were kind of rare.

I have worked on a lot of newer Heavy Duty Diesels that have Cams way down deep in the Block, Mack, Cummin's, the 3406 Cats are all over head Valve but Cams in the block.

I had one of the 1693's in a 1975 Pete, 675 HP to the rear wheels did great in the Mountains in California and Oregon but it was $5000 for a bare head.

I can atest to the electric motor. My wife's Sonata Hybrid is electric motor driven. It's pretty quick off the line. It just goes. I tend to think if my 350 had a similar drive train, I wonder what towing would be like.

Sure is.... And 426 rounded is 7.0 liters too. Kind of like the 302 is rounded to 5.0 liters.

I don’t think this actually means anything. They did something similar on 4/26 last year

The ford performance marketing manager has publicly made the statement "venom kills demons". I sure hope they can back it up, but I don't think he would have made the comment if he wasn't confident in what was coming.
