I will try and detail a step by step break down and rebuild of the #2 injector which is the one that failed the Buzz Test.

By the way, the #1 injector passed the .002" feeler gauge test so no shims needed.

Also, if any of you see something I may have missed in determining injector condition please don't be shy on pointing it out. I am learning as I go.

Great job! I don't see how that tool with the square drive in it works. Is it a tapered hole and just friction fit, or does it have dogs on it, or something else?

It simply fits over the injector body and then torqued to spec which I read was 70 ft. lbs.

I didn't notice the body was flat on the sides. Great pic, clears that right up. Thanks.

While the clearance isn't too bad, I'd personally still throw a shim in there - at 2 thou you're already worn to half your spec'd clearance.

Now, if you're planning on replacing injectors in the near future, just pretend I didn't say anything as that clearance will get you through.

Thanks for the heads up on that.
The .002" went through with no drag at all on this one.
On the #2 injector I just started to disassemble I couldn't even get the feeler gauge to start under the edge anywhere.

Does anyone have stock split shot nozzles laying around they might part with? I have one that needs to be replaced. Willing to pay, just don't want to shell out $375 for a complete set when it looks like I just need one of them.

I wonder if nozzles are disposable or are considered part of the core?

For example, I had my split shot nozzles remanned and converted to single shots. If I had asked for the old parts to be returned- especially since I sent in my own injectors- would I have gotten them back?

It's been about 3 months since I sent mine in. Highly doubtful they would be anywhere reachable.

But maybe someone else is sending in their splitshots for reman? How would you know if the nozzles are still usable?

I'd think you'd want a new one. Did you check with the vendor to see if you can buy just one?

Maybe call one of the rebuilders and ask if you can buy just one?
